Center for Gender Studies Projects

Women in Science

The Women in Science Project is a collaboration between the Center for Gender Studies, a committee of women faculty from the Biological, Physical, and Social Sciences Divisions, and the Provost’s office. The aim of the project is to organize events that bring women scientists at the University together to share their work, make connections around shared research interests, and build community to counter-balance the isolation some of them experience in their departments and laboratories.

Experience of Women at the University of Chicago

For four years the Center for Gender Studies engaged in the Experience of Women at the University of Chicago Project, undertaken by both faculty and students, designed to collect, record, and present a major history of the role and experience of women at the University of Chicago. This archive project has developed in three distinct but overlapping dimensions: "On Equal Terms" -- Educating Women at the University of Chicago, The Oral History Project, and The Life of the Female Mind: Gender and Education at the University of Chicago.

Lesbian and Gay Studies

The Lesbian and Gay Studies Project (LGSP), an integral part of the University's Center for Gender Studies, coordinates graduate and undergraduate courses, provides research grants and dissertation-year fellowships to graduate students, co-sponsors the bi-weekly Gender & Sexuality Studies Workshop, and organizes research projects and conferences.
